In the United States, data on therapeutic abortion can be misleading. A strong relationship between educational achievement and abortion is generally reported, but the better educated are generally more able to buy their way into a legal hospital through their private physicians. The definite social discrimination practiced in American hospitals has been revealed in a number of studies.*
In regard to the total abortion picture in the United States, studies by the Institute for Sex Research reported by Gebhard et al. (61) have yielded inconclusive findings as to the association between abortion and educational
